Outdoor Fun with Samoyeds

You can have lots of outdoor fun with your Samoyeds.

Sledding and Skijoring
I have done a little recreational sledding with my Samoyeds. For dogs that love to run and pull,
it's a great way to have fun.
This is Carol and Fee with a one-dog sled

Pennsylvania (left).
Skijoring is a great way to exercise you
and your dog in the winter. All you need
(besides a dog in harness) are skis,
equipment to attach the skier to the dog,
and snow. This is Nico and Carol skijoring

Herding
One of the jobs that Samoyeds did in Siberia was herding reindeer, and many modern day
Samoyeds preserve the herding instinct. Some Samoyeds have even competed successfully
against border collies at herding trials. Here are Nico and Carol learning to herd sheep in
southwestern Pennsylvania. The sheep have recently been sheared, so the dog is the fluffy one.
DogPacking
A dog can be a wonderful companion in the mountains
or on the trail. I have hiked around the Northeastern
USA with our Samoyeds. Here are Nico and Carol on
the Appalachian Trail.
Nico and I spent 12 years hiking the length of Vermont.
We hiked the Long Trail which traverses the length of
the Green Mountains that run through the state of
Vermont. With Fiona on the Long Trail (below)

There are more
comfortable ways to
travel. This photo (right)

Willoughby in Vermont's
Northeast Kingdom.
